● Variety Source: Taikeng No. 9 (Taiken 9) is a japonica rice variety. It was bred by Dr. Hsu Chih-Sheng of the Taichung District Agricultural Research and Extension Station. It was developed using Norin 100 (mutated by gamma-ray irradiation) as the female parent and Tainung Senn 2414 as the male parent, through hybrid selection.

Taikeng No. 9 breeding began in 1981 and was officially named in 1993.

Taikeng 9 has become one of the most popular rice varieties in the market. It features attractive grains, an excellent chewy texture, and outstanding stickiness and elasticity. It is also the preferred rice for premium sushi, offering excellent eating quality with stable and superior grain quality.

The rice has a relatively high starch content, with plump, bright white grains. It is considered one of the best-quality rice varieties in Taiwan. It is suitable for sushi, fried rice, and lunchbox meals, with a wide range of applications. Its texture is comparable to Japanese Koshihikari rice.

● Nguồn giống: Taikeng số 9 (tiếng Anh: Taiken 9) là một giống lúa japonica. Giống này được lai tạo bởi Tiến sĩ Hsu Chih-Sheng thuộc Trạm cải tiến nông nghiệp khu vực Đài Trung, với mẹ là giống Hokuriku 100 được đột biến bằng tia gamma, và bố là Tainung Senn 2414, sau đó chọn lọc từ các thế hệ lai.
